Weekly Challenge #215: "Labyrinth"

This week the Diva writes:

"I've been taking a year long course on Mandalas with the amazing Scottish beauty Julie Gibbons, this is my third year exploring the Great Round of Mandala with her. And it just so happens that Stage Three (which corresponds with the month of March) involves labyrinths. I've been thinking about tangling a labyrinth ever since.
I had wondered how well a labyrinth would translate into a Zentangle challenge, and then in my online travels i found a website which said:

A labyrinth is not a maze. Mazes are puzzles, designed to vex the mind, but labyrinths are contemplative designs, designed to focus the mind.

and i thought, that sounds much like tangling to me! So i gave it a go. ".

So I started by drawing a labyrinth following the instructions on the web page :
http://art.tfl.gov.uk/labyrinth/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Worksheet_How-to-draw-a-labyrinth.pdf

The labyrinth is still visible in the center of the tile. Do you see it?But then I let my pencil follow my imagination and the theme of labyrinth has been somewhat forgotten.

Weekly Challenge #213: "Traced Object Strings"

The Diva challenge this week is to trace a nearby object as an interesting string. I trace around the basis of a small doll statue

I am also inspired by patterns and colors of clothings.

At the end I quickly transformed the patterns and without these explanations probably you would not see  similarities.

I try today with another string designed around an oval box. here is the string:

And my drawing :

Weekly Challenge #210: "Spiralstring - that's the thing!"

This week the DIVA proposes drawing from a spiral string.

I wanted to do a new drawing for this challenge but in fact i had already  many tiles with spiral string.

This time I have started a spiral but it ended with a question mark

Here is the newer tile but  I allowed myself to publish the oldest behind.

Dessin 1

Spiral is a form that I love and I use it frequently when I scribble.

Weekly Challenge #208: "Duotangle - Cubine vs Pokeroot"

A duotangle is a term that originated  on the blog of "the Diva"- It means to use ONLY TWO tangles and their tanglations throughout the tile.

For this week's challenge is to use only Cubine and Pokeroot and their variations.

So  i try to draw Cubine in a sphere. it was for me a difficult exercise.

Here is the résult :

Weekly Challenge #207

On the first Monday of each month the DIVA choose a tangle created by one of us. this month's tangle is brought to us by Sandy Hunter, a fellow CZT. It 's UNBATZ.
You can see the step outs for Unbatz on Sandy's blog here.

I used Unbatz as a string and smaller as pattern. This is the result . I find my drawing too overloaded.

Weekly Challenge #206: "Tools/Trade"

This week the challenge is "to try using tools or materials you've never used before for tangling."
For some time I try new pencils to draw with color. I especially like  color or white on black paper.
In this drawing I tried gelly rolls thinner than usual gel to allow me more details and a white felt marker  for large areas. This marker only partially covers the black background and allows some shades of white, more or less dimmed. This drawing has another peculiarity: I did on a 3.9x5.9 inch support and I prefer watching it vertically. What is your opinion?
If you want to see other tangles workings, this is the address of my gallery on Flickr:

Weekly Challenge #199: "UMT: Hitch by HeidiSue"

Happy new year ! Heureuse année 2015 !

Each week the Diva on her blog puts out a challenge for folks.

For those  who don't know, the first Monday of the month, is a UMT Challenge (Use My Tangle), where the challenge is to learn and use a tangle created by one of us!

This week's UMT comes to us from HeidiDue and her blog: TanlgeOoh! You can look at the step outs for her tangle in this picture or on her blog.

I used this pattern in a circle and it became the structure of a Zendala. It may be difficult to recognize it. It is also converted into a kind of caterpillars around the sphere.

Weekly Challenge #198: "K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple, silly!)"

Is the Last Challenge of 2014!

The DIVA Writes : "The first challenge ever posed here... the challenge to simplify. To keep it simple, silly.
How does this challenge speak to you. How can you translate that into your work? Will you simplify your string? Simplify your tangles?"

I decided to simplify the technique used : white pencil on black background which does not need to be shaded. I also limited the number of patterns and their complexity. I wanted a sense of calm, floating in the fight against environmental stress lately. It may also be the silent snow ...

For this last challenge I wish you all a happy holiday season..

Weekly Challenge #197: "New Official Tangle - Arukas"

Each week the Diva on her blog puts out a challenge for fun.
This week's challenge is to use the new tangle "ARUKAS" in your tile or inspired piece.
At first I had some difficulties to draw this new pattern. I made a first drawing where the central star with branches of very different size.
I did a second test where the star is more regular. I wanted to make a tile with many stars but on the way I was wrong and my project was modified.

here is these two tiles.

What dou you think about it ?

Weekly DIVA Challenge #196: All Dolled Up

Each week the Diva on her blog puts out a challenge for folks.
This week's challenge is brought by Emily Classon, CZT.

She invites us to be inspired by dolls like she has been. Awaken our inner child, and add some playtime to our tangling with a doll-shaped string, a tangled paper doll chain, or a tangled fabric doll.

Here is my drawing

I hope you enjoy this little doll.

ZENTANGLE - ZAI - Weekly DIVA Challenge #195

Turning Old into New Challenge

Each week the Diva on her blog puts out a challenge for folks.  This week is the Weekly Challenge #195 : Turning “Old into New”
So here is what the Guest Diva, Sandy, says this week “Imagine your favorite go-to tangle pattern. Something you love; something you draw all the time. Is it a grid-based pattern? Or is it a ‘scatter’ pattern, that you can just use randomly to fill up a space? If nothing comes immediately to mind, go poke around on tanglepatterns.com …or pinterest. They’re gold mines for tangle patterns.
Here’s the challenge: If you picked a grid-based pattern, pull it out of the grid and make it a freeform one. If it’s a freeform pattern, make it a grid-based pattern. That could mean several rows or a single row, drawn as a border. The idea is to change the structure of a pattern, while still retaining its basic elements.” So this is a little ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) Turning Old into New.

Here is my drawing :

I have just unwinded 'printemps'. Most of the time i draw grid-based patterns, and i'm less comfortable with freeform one. This change my design. This time I did not follow the dimensions of zentangle tiles.
(I apologize for my bad english)
